WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a car full of teenagers collided head-on with a police car in Alabama, killing three teens and a sheriff’s deputy.

Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said Monday the crash happened around 7:45 p.m. Sunday on a rural two-lane road.

Authorities say a 2003 Infiniti G35 driven by 16-year-old Austin Ryan Augustine collided with a cruiser being driven by Deputy James Bart Hart. Augustine and two passengers were killed in the crash. A third passenger, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the crash or where the teens were headed. The deputy was on patrol and had just responded to an accident involving a deer.
