SIMSBURY--Simsbury police are trying to temper fears four days after a local insurance executive and mother of two died from a stab wound.

"The department suggests that the public continue with general, day-to-day safety precautions," Simsbury Police Capt. Nicholas Boulter said in a press release on Monday. "We will continue to provide increased police presence and patrol for an undetermined amount of time."

Melissa Millan, 54, of Simsbury, was found on the side of Iron Horse Boulevard Thursday night. The office of the Chief Medical Examiner found that she died from a stab wound to the chest.

Police said motorists found Millan lying unresponsive on the paved portion of Iron Horse Boulevard between Phelps Lane and Rotary Park around 8 p.m. on Thursday. Emergency crews treated her and transported her to St. Francis Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

After talking with family, police believe Millan was out jogging when it happen.

Millan was a mother and senior vice president at the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Springfield, and she worked in Enfield office since 2001.

Jim Lacey a spokesman for MassMutual issued a statement:

Mass Mutual is deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague, Melissa Millan, a senior vice president in our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this extremely difficult time. Melissa’s tremendous leadership qualities, business acumen and deeply caring nature will be missed by those whohad the opportunity to work with her.
