WEST HARTFORD – With snow on the way that could cause travel problems, the AAA is predicting two million people hitting the road in New England over the next holiday weekend.
AAA projects more than 2 million people from New England will travel more than 50 miles from home this holiday, an increase of 3.9 % compared to last year. Almost 90% will travel by car.
“Lower gas prices are increasing disposable income and enabling families to carve out more money from household budgets for travel this Thanksgiving,” said AAA Public Affairs Manager Aaron Kupec. “Popular destinations among Connecticut residents include the mid-Atlantic states, New Hampshire and Vermont, as well as daytrips to Boston and the Big Apple.”
The average price for regular gasoline in Connecticut stands at $3.14 per gallon, 25 cents cheaper than a month ago, and 84 cents less expensive than the 2014 high of $3.98 in early July.
Nationwide, AAA projects 46.3 million Americans will travel for Thanksgiving, up 4.2 percent from 2013.
