The one catch? The runners must finish the race in the top ten of their respective fields. "It's going to make it a race within a race," said Tris Carta, the Manchester Race Committee Chairman. "It's going to be great excitement for the fans and the elite runners themselves," Carta added.
The cash bonus for the top competitors was, in part, the idea of Dave Prindiville, the Elite Race Coordinator, "it is going to add a little Thanksgiving spice for our runners," he said. Prindiville noted that the field for the fabled race is as strong as it has been in three years. Last year's champ Sam Chelanga will run as will 2012 winner Aaron Braun, and Olympic Steeplechase team member Donn Cabral, from Glastonbury. On the women's side, last year's champ Alice Kamunya returns as does 2012 Olympic silver medalist Sally Kipyego, a 2-time MRR winner.
