Hartford Non-Emergency Buildings Closed For Storm

HARTFORD–A lot of places are closing early on Wednesday in anticipation of the snowstorm.

UConn just announced to faculty and staff that all campuses except UConn Health will close at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. This is in accordance with the announcement that Gov. Dan Malloy made that all state office buildings will close at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday due to the predicted snowstorm, which is expected to pick up later in the day.

Nonessential state employees will be able to go home at that point. Also, the Department of Transportation has cancelled all planned road work starting Tuesday at 3 p.m. to lighten expected congestion and help drivers who are leaving early for Thanksgiving due to the storm.

In addition, the state’s Emergency Operations Center will be partially activated at 8 a.m., according to Malloy, in an effort to monitor the conditions across the state. “Activating the EOC will allow us to better coordinate a rapid response to any problems that may arise as the storm moves through the state during the busiest travel day of the year,” the governor said.

Malloy says their fleet of trucks and plow contractors are ready, and traffic updates will be posted on the new traffic signs across the state.

Additional Metro-North trains will also be running.

Also, starting at midnight there will be more visibility and enforcement on our roadways–that includes cracking down on drunk driving, as well as aggressive driving. That operation runs through Dec. 1.
