CROMWELL — The National Retail Federation estimates 25 million people start their holiday shopping on turkey day–they don’t wait ’til Black Friday.
In Cromwell, K Mart opens the doors at 6 a.m.
RadioShack is opening at 8 a.m. this year for the first time.
But the holiday shopping isn’t without controversy– many legislators in Hartford and lawmakers on Capitol Hill are calling for retailers to stay closed on Thanksgiving, so employees can enjoy family time, but the possible revenue is just too irresistible for retailers, especially those struggling and having to close store locations.
Here’s a list of stores open on Thanksgiving:
6 a.m. – KMart (a 23-year tradition)
8 a.m. – Radio Shack
4 p.m. – Gap and Old Navy
5 p.m. – Best Buy
5 p.m. – Dick’s Sporting Goods
5 p.m. – J.C. Penney (JCP) (an hour earlier than last year)
5 p.m. – Toys R Us
6 p.m. – Kohl’s
6 p.m. – Sears
6 p.m. – Macy’s
6 p.m. – Target
