BOROUGH PARK, Brooklyn (PIX11) — The driver behind the wheel of a minivan that struck and killed a 10-year-old girl and hurt a pregnant woman has been arrested, police said Wednesday.

Police said 22-year-old Bilal Ghumman was driving a grey 2015 Honda Odyssey minivan north on 18th Avenue about 9 p.m. Tuesday. He was making a left turn onto 60th Street when he hit a 10-year-old girl and a 33-year-old woman who were crossing the street, police said.

The younger victim, Blima Friedman, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

The pregnant woman was rushed to a hospital, where she gave birth. She and her newborn are listed in stable condition.

After the crash, Ghumman remained at the scene and was subsequently taken into custody.

He faces charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and violation of a local law for which he had an active warrant.

Tragedy has struck the little girl’s family as recently as 2009, when the 10-year-old’s twin sister was severely burned in a Brooklyn house fire.
