IRVINE, Ca. — Emojis have become a necessity in everyday lingo to fully express one’s emotion while texting or talking online.  But, what if there is no emoji to convey your message? Taco Bell feels that the struggle is real and are demanding change.

In November 2014, the late-night fast food chain posted their request on Change.org exclaiming that the taco emoji needs to happen, ” Why do pizza and hamburger lovers get an emoji but taco lovers don’t? Here’s a better question: why do we need four different types of mailboxes? Or 25 different types of clocks? Or a VCR tape and floppy disk emoji? No one even uses those things anymore.”

The fast food giant is petitioning the Unicode Consortium, the non-profit organization that coordinates the development of the Unicode standard. Essentially, they monitor the coding standard for characters and emojis, allowing them to be used in the internationalization and localization of computer software. The petition from Taco Bell came about when the Unicode Consortium announced last November that 37 new emoji were candidates for the 2015 release of Unicode 8.0.

The Change.org petition has picked up steam recently, as there are only less than two-thousand signatures left that are needed.

Taco Bell won’t give up. The believe that “America needs a taco emoji. America wants a taco emoji.”
