PLAINFIELD — Five small earthquakes shook the area around Plainfield early Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey confirms.
A 1.1 magnitude earthquake happened at 6:36 a.m. Monday, U.S.G.S. said. That was followed by tremors of 0.9, 3.3, and 2.0 magnitude. The latest, a 1.3 magnitude quake was recorded just after noon.
“The whole house shook and we looked at each other and we said, ‘Did you just feel that?,'” said Judy Pezza of Sterling. “My whole house shook, like a total vibration for two full seconds.”
The earthquake was felt as far away as Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
“Felt like a big truck was rumbling past the house,” Brian Morrow from Griswold said.

The Plainfield Police Department deployed numerous officers throughout the town to ensure everyone’s safety, police said.
If you have experienced any structural damage, police say to call your local building inspector. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or major damage.
The original earthquake shook the area last Thursday around 9:30 a.m. That was a 2.0 – 2.2 magnitude quake.
Ralph Lewis, president of the Connecticut Geological Society, said aftershocks could theoretically continue in Plainfield for several more months.
Lewis also said serious damage usually happens to structures built on shakey ground, especially areas filled in with dirt.
“The construction is really important, what the foundation looks like is really important, what the building is sitting on, whether it’s bedrock or very shakable soil,” Lewis said.
