WINDSOR-- The Windsor community came together on Saturday in order to help the players on the Windsor Warriors high school football team commemorate it's recent championship win.
The Warriors football team are trying to raise around $20,000 to buy championship rings for the the entire team, nearly $300 for each player.
In December, Windsor defeated Notre Dame-West Haven 38-16 to win the 2014 Class L Small championship.
"Our hard work that we put through the season and stuff-- that will mean lot, just to have it there, it will last a lifetime," said senior middle linebacker Germaine Everett-Welcome.
The players say it's just too expensive to pay for the rings on their own.
"It's a lot of money," said Everett-Welcome.
Crowds of people showed up to the Buffalo Wild Wings in Windsor Saturday afternoon for the "Wings for Rings" fundraiser.
The restaurant allocated 20 percent of all its Saturday afternoon sales toward raising money to buy championship rings for each of the Warriors football team members.
"One of those memorable things that they can take away from this championship is those rings that can last a lifetime, so we really wanted them to reach that accolade," said Miguel Proano, general of manager of the Windsor Buffalo Wild Wings.
To date--- the team has received around $5,000 from businesses and others around Windsor toward the fundraising goal.
Windsor Head Coach Robert Fleeting says the team still needs to raise $15,000, but says his players have made coin collections and other fundraisers.
"We sent some letters out to some businesses in town, people are sending in donations and everything. The kids are working hard with fundraisers, trying to do everything we can to reach that mark," Fleeting said.
Jedidiah Haynes, a Windsor High School senior and Warrior Quarterback thinks all the hard work will pay off.
"We get a lot of support from the town, so we`re pretty confident we`ll be able to raise a lot of money," Haynes said.
In 2014 the Windsor High School boys basketball won the Class L state championship and successfully raised enough money needed to get their own championship rings.
