HAMDEN–Taxi drivers in the Hamden-New Haven area can sleep a bit easier tonight.

After three drivers were robbed by passengers in December–two of whom were picked up at New Haven’s Union Station–drivers became worried for their safety.

Hamden Police announced on Wednesday that they arrested a suspect in connection to one of the robberies. Aaron Johnson, 39, of New Haven, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with robbery in the first degree and larceny in the second degree. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.

On Dec. 26 Hamden Police responded to reports of an armed robbery. A “Metro” cab driver took a passenger from Cedar Street in New Haven to Marlboro Street in Hamden. When arriving at the destination, the passenger held a knife to the driver’s throat and demanded money. The passenger fled on foot with an unknown amount of cash.

An investigation led police to Johnson.
