NIANTIC–After fighting for her life, 8-year-old Madeline Guarraia can return home.
According to the “Smiles for Madeline” Facebook page, Madeline got to go home on Thursday after spending 47 days in the hospital undergoing chemo.
This is the second time that Madeline has had leukemia, and she recently found out her little brother is a perfect bone marrow donor match.
According to her mother Amie’s Facebook page, Santa Claus visited Madeline when she got home as the family celebrated Christmas together–something they couldn’t do in December while Madeline was in the hospital.
On Friday, the Waterford High School wrestling team members and coaches participated in “Play for a Cure” to benefit both Madeline and Alicia Hensley, a seventh-grader from Waterford who has Ewing’s sarcoma, another form of cancer. The students wore pink t-shirts that read “coaches vs. cancer,” and proceeds from the event will benefit both girls.
