HARTFORD -- With the blizzard of 2015 over and done with, now everyone is digging out across New England.

But as millennials complain about the feet of snow in Eastern Connecticut and Massachusetts, older New Englanders know that this storm was nothing compared to the Blizzard of 1978.

Like this recent storm, '78 hit Eastern New England harder than the West. The big difference 37 years ago was the blizzard had much stronger inland sustained winds at 50, 60 and even 70 miles per hour. Actual snowfall was between 15 to 24 inches, but the strong winds created drifts that would pile up much higher.

Many people were unaware of the impending storm, so they were caught out and about, and driving on highways. Drivers were forced to either flee their cars or be buried.

Nearly 100 deaths were recorded in New England as a result of the storm.
