A Winter Storm Warning continues for the state as a lot of snow, ice, and sleet pound the state today. Moisture is pushing through Connecticut, and as it interacts with warm air working in from the South, we’re looking at an ice and sleet concern for the afternoon. Just a little ice across southern and central portions of the state will bring travel to a standstill.

Here’s how we break it down: The storm began as snow and it will pick up steam toward dawn. Heavier snow bands may drop over an inch an hour at times through the morning  commute. Many schools are closed for Monday, but if you  have to go to work, use extreme caution.

The problem lies with the ice and sleet that may fall in the midday. There is the potential for up to a half inch of ice, which raises concerns for travel, and the possibility of power outages. Then cold air rushes back in, changing the moisture back to snow for the end of the storm late tonight.

How much snow? We’re looking for upwards of 6-12” inland , with lower amounts at the snow thanks to the ice and sleet potential. Then, with cold air overnight into Tuesday, expect major black ice concerns for the commute Tuesday morning.

As always , stay with Fox CT, where we’re on the Weather Watch for this strong storm moving through the state.
