Woman shot in New Haven home invasion

NEW HAVEN- Police are searching for a male suspect after a  woman was shot inside her apartment during a home invasion on Sunday evening.

Detectives responded at 7:33 p.m to an apartment on County Street on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived they found a 27-year old woman shot in the thigh.

The victim told police she discovered a man in her apartment when she returned home and as she fled the man reportedly chased and shot her. Police say the victim and the suspect did not know each other. The victim was taken to Yale- New Haven Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Police  describe the suspect as a thin white male in his late twenties, 5’6″ tall and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
