EAST HAMPTON – An accident caused a power outage and Route 66 to be closed after a vehicle hit a utility pole.
Police said Route 66 was still closed in East Hampton between Maple Street and Main Street as of 2:45 p.m.
Power lines had been damaged in the area, and Eversource Energy was evaluating the situation.
Approximately 85 customers were without power for a period of time, but power has been restored.
The accident was reported at 9:13 a.m.
Police said the road could be closed for quite an extended period of time.
There were no reports of injuries.
