(CNN) — Al Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy walked out of an Egyptian prison Friday after more than 400 days behind bars, his employer said.

Fahmy and colleague Baher Mohamed were granted bail a day earlier pending a retrial on charges that they supported the banned Muslim Brotherhood.

Less than two weeks ago, their colleague Peter Greste, who was convicted with them, was freed and deported to his native Australia.

Fahmy, an Egyptian-Canadian citizen and former CNN producer, posted 250,000 Egyptian pounds ($32,750) in bail. Mohamed, an Egyptian citizen, is not required to pay but is barred from leaving the country before the retrial.

Their retrial is scheduled for February 23.

Fahmy says he recently surrendered his Egyptian citizenship under coercion to facilitate his release.
