In today’s health news, surgeries are important procedures – so you’d think a more experienced surgeon would mean a safer procedure. However, a new study suggests otherwise.
University of Pennsylvania researchers compiled surgical statistics for more than 130,000 patients over two years, and they found that new surgeons have the same mortality rate for patients as those who have been in the field for decades – about 3% for both elective surgery and emergency surgery.
Food additives like emulsifiers help keep processed foods fresh and improve their texture, but what do they do to your gut? We don’t fully know, but it wasn’t good for mice.
Researchers found that emulsifiers altered the make-up of their gut bacteria, and that led to inflammation which contributed to Irritable Bowel Disease and other diseases.
But again – this was preliminary research in mice – not in humans.

Apples topped the list because of the chemicals applied before and after harvest to preserve them.
