HARTFORD--Next week starts the state boy's basketball tournament, but on Wednesday the CIAC announced the top seeds: Fairfield Prep, New London, Sacred Heart-Waterbury and Hartford Weaver.
On Wednesday, the Hartford Weaver Beavers played the Meriden Maloney Spartans in the CCC semifinals. While Weaver may be a top seed, fifth-seeded Maloney wasn't afraid and dominated the first half. The game went into overtime, but Weaver pulled away at the buzzer for a win, 77-75.
Meanwhile, in high school hockey, East Haven defeated New Milford 3-1, qualifying them for the state tournament for the 29th consecutive year.
