HARTFORD — The Metropolitan District Commission is asking customers to watch out for people posing as an MDC employee trying to collect water bill payments over the phone.
The MDC said that on Friday, someone claiming to be from the MDC called customers, telling them they had overdue water bills and threatening to shut off their water if they did not immediately pay the bill by credit card.
The MDC wants customers to be aware that the MDC never takes payments over the phone. The commission said its field employees wear clothing and drive vehicles clearly marked with the MDC logo.
If someone comes to your door claiming to be from the MDC but there is no previously scheduled appointment, do now allow him/her into your home until calling the MDC Command Center to verify the person’s identity. You can call the Command Center at 860-278-7850 ext. 3600.
If you have any doubt about the individual’s motives, identity or authenticity of credentials, do not allow him/her into your home and call the police.
