HARTFORD – From the beer to the green chachkies, people across the country and whipping out their wallets to pay up for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

The market value of a pot of gold is $1.3 million but  American’s are expected to spend about $4.6 billion on St. Patrick’s Day 2015, according to the folks at WalletHub. That’s about $36.5 a person.

So where does all the money go? If you guessed beer, you’re right. 13 million pints of Guinness will be consumed worldwide on St. Patrick’s Day. March 17th ranks 4th among the calender’s most popular drinking days, behind New Year’s Eve, Christmas, and the Fourth of July.

It appears the luck of the Irish might carry over into the workplace. The median income for Irish-American households is $60,967, compared to $52,250 for all households.
