LEBANON–A farm employee was killed on Monday after an equipment malfunction.

State troopers responded to Square A Farm, located at 1068 Trumbull Hwy. after reports that a large piled of milled corn had collapsed on the employee.

Donald Merchant, 54, of South Windham, was removing corn from a large mound using farm equipment, and when he exited the equipment a section of the mound sheared away and burried him.

He was dug out and found unresponsive by other farm employees. His co-workers performed CPR on him and Merchant was transported to Windham Hospital, but he was unable to be revived. He was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m.
