HARTFORD – It’s been thirteen years since the longest-running sci-fi series of network television history went off the air, and now, in the summer of 2015, production on the next, mind-bending chapter of The X-Files will officially commence.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” series creator and executive producer Chris Carter said, “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

It’s official: ‘The X-Files’ is returning to FOX

During the announcement on Tuesday, March 24, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, said that “The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture- yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning.”

The X-Files, which originally premiered in September 1993, earned 16 Emmy Awards, 5 Golden Globes, and a Peabody Award, and is still considered one of the most successful television dramas of all time.
