DANBURY – Police arrested a babysitter after they say she intentionally injured a child in her care.

Police said Lidia Quilligana, 31, of Danbury, was arrested for bruising and burning a 3-year-old Friday night.

The child’s mother came home from work and noticed injuries on her 3-year-old daughter.  Quilligana said the child accidentally touched the hot stove while she was looking after the other children, according to police.

The girl was treated by a doctor and returned home, at which point the mother reviewed footage from a hidden camera and saw that the injuries were intentionally inflicted on the child.

Police said Quilligana is charged with first-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and criminal mischief. Police said the investigation is continuing and more charges are likely to be added.

Quilligana was initially held on a $100,000 bond, but that was upped to $1million at her arraignment Monday morning.

Quilligana’s lawyer said she babysits for several other families who have never had a problem.
