DANIELSON  –  A Plainfield man appeared in court Monday on charges he assaulted an infant.

Plainfield police arrested Robert Tarkowski, 36 of Plainfield, on charges of assault, risk of injury and reckless endangerment on Saturday.

Police believe that Tarkowski deliberately injured the child Thursday when he was caring for her. She was taken to Windham Hospital and then transferred to Connecticut Children Medical Center, where she is being treated for multiple fractures to her skull and arm, according to police.

Tarkowski was initially held on a $250,000 bond, but it was upped to $300,000 at his arraignment.
