HARTFORD– Arrests are expected to be made soon in the case of a carjacking involving two kids and three gunshot victims, police said on Tuesday.

According to Deputy Chief Brian Foley, a family was taking groceries out of their truck in the area of Preston Street and Campfield Avenue Monday night when they were approached by a man with a gun. That man stole their truck with their two children inside and fled the scene, Foley said.

Then, the man drove the stolen truck to Hartford Hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds to the back and chest. Police believe he received those wounds prior to the carjacking.

A second man showed up at the hospital a short time later with gunshot wounds to the leg. A third man arrived at Saint Francis Hospital, also with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police believe all three of the men are connected to the same shooting.

“All three shooting victims are convicted felons, significant arrest histories in the city of Hartford. We believe this is narcotics related. A crime scene was located at around 27 Gilman St.,” Foley said.

The man with a gunshot wounds to his back and chest is still at Hartford Hospital in critical, but stable condition. The other two men were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital.

Police said a gun has been recovered from a street near Hartford Hospital but it is too early to tell if it is related to the shooting incident.

Hartford Major Crimes Division is investigating.
