BRIDGEPORT – In the fifth homicide of the year, 57 year-old Jose Salgado and his wife were working in their store, Sapiao’s Grocery at 351 Lexington Avenue, when two men came in around 3 p.m., armed with handguns, to rob them.

According to reports, they demanded money, and when Jose went to hand the money over, one of the suspects shot him.  He was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, but died from his injuries at 3:46 p.m.

Video evidence shows the suspects approaching the store on foot, east on Linen Ave., and then one minute later, they are seen running west on Linen Ave, back in the direction they had come from.

According to several witnesses, they entered a bright green 4-door vehicle and fled west on Linen Ave. The vehicle is believed to be a kiwi-colored Ford Focus and they were last seen traveling north on St. James St.   Witnesses also said that a third person was in the vehicle and had waited in the passenger seat.

It is believed to be a 2008 to 2011 Ford Focus S. It is light yellow or green with a sunroof and has a Connecticut plate.

The first suspect, the driver, is described as a black male, about 5’9”, medium build, in his 30’s and had his face partially covered by a mask. The second suspect is a white or Hispanic male, 5’6” or 5’7”, also in his 30’s with long hair and did not wear a mask.

Below is video surveillance of the suspects fleeing in their car. Anyone with information should contact  Detective Ada Curet at 203-581-5236.
