The latest proposed guidelines on breast cancer screenings are out from the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force.

These newest guidelines say that, for women aged 40 to 49, mammograms only save a very small number of lives and that there’s a risk for over-diagnosis and over-treatment, so at that age, women and their doctor should decide whether or not to screen.

It’s a change from the previous recommendation that women under 50 don’t get screened at all.

For women ages 50 to 74, the guidelines recommend getting a mammogram once every two years, and for women 75 and over, the panel said there’s not enough evidence to make a strong recommendation either way.

A farm in Iowa is now the biggest poultry operation to get hit by the bird flu.   Inspectors have found the h5n2 strain of influenza at a farm that has nearly ten-percent of the state’s egg-laying chickens.

That means more than 5,000,000 birds must now be killed, and it comes just days after 27,000 turkeys on another Iowa farm had to be euthanized for the same reason.

It’s important to emphasize that officials said the h5n2 virus does not pose a threat to humans.
