BOSTON -- If you like your museums with a bit more game, head to Boston.

The winding halls of the TD Garden is home to the Sports Museum, which consists of two levels and about a half a mile of memorabilia dedicated to all things that are New England sports. The home of both the Celtics and the Bruins displays a treasure trove of sports keepsakes that visitors and come and see.

"We focus a lot on the Bruins and Celtics as well as the Red Sox and New England Patriots," said Elizabeth Dowd, the programming coordinator at Sports Museum, "but we have exhibits that stretch far beyond the major sports."

Guests can go to the Garden's top tier to see the mass of Celtics and Bruins banners. You'll also see life-sized statues of Carl Yastrzemski, Bobby Orr and Ted Williams -- as a fisherman. Little known fact: Williams is also in the Fishing Hall of Fame, in addition to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

There are winners at every turn, with the newest buzz around the Patriots' latest Super Bowl victory.

The Sports Museum staff stresses to expect the unexpected; UConn hoop fans will enjoy seeing Rebecca Lobo's uniform when she played on the team in the 90s. There is also a full case that highlights the Hartford Whalers, and even Manute Bol's warm-up suit from his days at the University of Bridgeport.

"There is a little bit of everything here," Dowd added, standing a few steps from the size 23 high tops once worn by Shaquille O'Neal who spent his last season as a Celtic in 2010-2011.

The Sports Museum runs tours most days during the spring and summer months. Tours typically run on the half hour and cost $12 for adults, $6 for students and seniors, and kids under 10 go for free.

Tours last just under an hour and the Garden is within easy walking distance of Boston's famed North End, which is a day trip in and of itself. The TD Garden is located at 100 Legends Way in Boston. For more information click here.
