HARTFORD--Police are investigating a shooting in Hartford.

Around 4 p.m. Hartford firefighter Donald Brown, a 25-year veteran of the department, shot a 31-year-old man in the abdomen. The victim was taken to St. Francis and is in serious, but stable condition.

The shooting occurred at 131 Hebron St.

Brown is at the police station and is cooperating with officers, but he has not been charged with anything. Officials say that he is the one who called 911 to report the shooting, and he said that it occurred after some type of altercation.

Brown has a gun permit.

According to the Hartford Assessor's office, Donald Brown purchased the home located at 131 Hebron St. in 2011. However, other public records indicate that he does not live at the address currently, but that someone else does.

Captain Helene Lynch of the Hartford Fire Department released a statement on Saturday, April 25 stating that Brown's involvement in the shooting is "under investigation by the Hartford Police Department and the States Attorney’s Office. We are confident that both agencies will conduct a thorough and exhaustive investigation of the incident and the status of his employment will then be determined."

The victim's father identified him as Lascelles Reid.
