HARTFORD – On Friday, April 24 around 11:15 p.m., the Hartford Police Department Shooting Task Force successfully tracked down and arrested Christopher Gilliard, 27, who was said to be a felon armed with a firearm.

Police first received report of the suspect earlier on Friday, and were able to develop information regarding the vehicle the suspect would be traveling in. Investigators saw that particular vehicle traveling west on Belden St. and members of the shooting task force and special ops conducted a motor vehicle stop at 59 Belden St.

While approaching the vehicle, detectives noticed that the rear seat passenger, Gilliard, was attempting to conceal an item in the front of his pants, and during a pat down, discovered the firearm in question.

The firearm was retrieved and Gilliard was handcuffed without incident.  He is being charged with Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Weapon in Motor Vehicle and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

The firearm was a Hi Point 9mm Model C w/ magazine containing four live 9mm rounds and one chambered live 9mm round.
