NEW HAVEN–Police have made an arrest in a homicide-arson investigation from January.

On January 23 firefighters put out a blaze at 60 Warren St., and while fighting the fire they found the body of Willie Evans, 57. He lived in the apartment in which the fire occurred.

Autopsy results later confirmed that Evans was killed prior to the fire, and the fire was likely set to cover up the crime, according to police.

On May 1 an arrest warrant for Demetrius Robinson, 50, was issued charging him with murder and second-degree arson. The U.S. Marshals task force and a New Haven Police officer worked together to taken Robinson into custody.

Robinson has previously been  convicted of manslaughter. That charge was reduced from homicide from an incident that occurred in New York, and he subsequently served 15 years for the conviction.
