WEST HAVEN - A large brush fire jumped the Metro-North and Amtrak tracks on Thursday afternoon, shutting down the New Haven line for a couple of hours.
The service was restored just before 6 p.m. tHURSDAY
Metro-North confirmed to Fox CT that the train was initially shut down in both directions between Milford and New Haven, and that buses were used to transport people from Milford to New Haven.
A compost pile is what initially caught on fire, and it melted wires along the tracks, river and I-95, near the West River. The fire happened across the river from the Kimberly Avenue exit ramp on I-95 southbound.
The fire was fought from multiple angels, including from a boat on the water.
