HARTFORD — The Connecticut General Assembly’s minority Republicans are holding their own public hearing on the majority Democrats’ proposed tax increases.
Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano said the GOP leaders urged their Democratic colleagues to hold a public airing of the proposal, but did not receive a response. Fasano said a hearing is necessary because the public has not been able to comment on some of the increases included in the Finance Revenue and Bonding Committee’s tax package.
The Democratic revenue proposal increased personal tax rates for high-earners and extended the state sales tax to numerous services, including accounting and veterinary.
A Connecticut Democratic Party spokesman called the hearing an attempt by GOP leadership to “score cheap political points.”
The hearing is scheduled Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Legislative Office Building.
