EAST WINDSOR — Police arrested a man after they say he crashed his Dodge Ram pickup truck into seven cars in two neighboring parking lots Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses could only describe what happened as a demolition derby.

Police were called to the Geissler’s Plaza on Bridge Street shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday by multiple callers who said a vehicle had hit several cars in the parking lot and driven off. Moments later, callers reported more vehicles hit behind the Maine Fish Market next door.

Officers found five vehicles behind Maine Fish that were heavily damaged and two more damaged vehicles at Geissler’s Plaza.

Police said they found Jordan DeSousa, 61, sitting behind the wheel of his truck. Witnesses said he was the driver who caused the crashes.

DeSousa was charged with DUI, evading responsibility, and reckless driving. Because three people had to run out of the path of the vehicle, he was also charged with three counts of reckless endangerment. Police said his blood alcohol level was more than three time the legal limit.

“I’ve never seen anybody do that sober, I know that,” witness Jesse Prichard said.

Another witness, Mandy Mott, said, “Thank God he didn’t hit anybody.” There were no reports of any injuries.

Emergency responders said that DeSousa went on a bender because he had apparently just learned his wife was leaving him.

Witnesses at the scene identified DeSousa as the driver of the pickup responsible for the accident.

Four cars were towed from the scene with damage. DeSousa was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court June 9.
