WEST HARTFORD - Former UConn Men’s Basketball coach Jim Calhoun and Cigna raised money for medical research Saturday in West Hartford with the annual Jim Calhoun Ride and Walk.
The annual bike riding and walking event-- started by Coach Calhoun- drums up support for the UConn Health Center.
Participants could ride up to 62 miles or walk a 5K course at Northwest Catholic in West Hartford.
Calhoun said, “It's a village all coming together to help people.”
“This event is very near and dear to my heart,” said Laurie Feldman from Stamford. Feldman is from team Cigna. She says she was inspired by Calhoun’s journey -- he's had two kinds of cancer and a back condition and still presses on. Feldman walks for her father who lost his battle with cancer.
“It’s okay to ask for help and it helps you to help others,” said Calhoun.
