WEST HARTFORD — A West Hartford police lieutenant earned more than $285,000 in pay last year, much of it from overtime and private duty construction-site work.

The Hartford Courant reports it obtained the pay records for Lt. Roger Brancoforte and other members of the department through a Freedom of Information request.

The newspaper reports Brancoforte was the department’s top earner, often working 16-hour days.

Officers are allowed to work no more than 18 hours in a 24 hour period and must take at least four consecutive hours off between shifts.

Officer Greg Palmquist, president of the West Hartford Police Officer’s Association, said that Brancoforte’s work has been exemplary and his work schedule has not affected his ability to perform his duties as a lieutenant.
