STAMFORD — A Stamford man has been sentenced to a year in jail for beating a homeless man with a sock filled with stones.

The Advocate newspaper reports that 31-year-old Deron Ladson pleaded guilty to assaulting a 57-year-old homeless man.

Ladson was also sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation and ordered to help pay for any verified out-of-pocket expenses resulting from the beating.

Ladson’s attorney says his client has taken responsibility for his actions.

Police say Ladson and a friend pummeled the man last November leaving him with two large gashes on his face.

The case against the other man is still pending.
