KINGSTON — The owner of a bakery and coffee shop located near the historic Plymouth waterfront says she’s planning to retire and wants to pass her business on to somebody who would be the most deserving successor to run it.
So, the contestant who writes the most compelling argument in 250 words or less on why they should receive Sweets Coffee, Cakes & Treats in Kingston, in southeastern Massachusetts, gets the business.
Shop owner Maria Enemark and her three daughters will collect the submissions, narrow down the pool to 100 finalists from an expected 4,000 entries and have a panel of three judges read the essays. They will select the winner, based on passion, business savvy, and guts, to run the bakery
Enemark said in a press release that she wants someone, “who has a true passion and talent for baking,” to take over her shop.
“I’ve loved every minute of the time I’ve had with Sweets. But after all the hard work, it’s time to move forward into the next chapter of my life,” she said in the release. “I was fortunate enough to be able to build this business from the ground up. I know not everyone has the capital to start a bakery from scratch, but I also know that there are tons of talented people out there that would succeed if they were just given the opportunity.”
She said she knows that starting up a business is filled with challenges, so with this in mind, she will also give the contest winner $15,000.
The family plans to announce the winner by the end of October.
