MANCHESTER — Officials say a former deputy fire chief in Manchester┬ádidn’t receive firefighter certification from the state training academy and no one has said how a bogus certificate appeared in his file.

Acting Fire Chief Don Moore says Todd Sise resigned as the investigation began. The former deputy with the Eighth Utilities District fire department in Manchester remains a paid dispatcher and is not facing disciplinary action.

The 38-year-old said Wednesday he completed partial training at the Connecticut Fire Academy and that an administrator told him he passed an exam to obtain his Firefighter I certificate.

He says he was never formally presented with the certificate and now believes someone created the fake certificate after he actually failed the test.
