ANSONIA — Police are investigating after two men say they were attacked by a dog on Monday morning.

Around 6:20 a.m., a nurse from Griffin Hospital called police to say that two people had come to the emergency room after being attacked by a dog.

When officers arrived at the hospital it was learned that two males, ages 43 and 41 of Ansonia, had been attacked by a roaming dog.

The only information that the males could give as a description was a dark color or brown Pit Bull.

One of the males reported that he heard a disturbance in front of his home on Arch Street around 3 a.m. and when he went out to investigate he was attacked by the dog. The male said that he was bitten on the arm by the dog and he was able to fight the dog off and run away. The other male also relayed the same story about the dog attacking unprovoked and he was also bitten on the arm and leg area.

Both men required medical attention and surgery to repair their injuries, according to police.

A neighborhood canvas did not result in any other witnesses or the identification of an owner or the dog at this time. The case is still under investigation.

Anyone who may have information is asked to call the Ansonia Police Department at 203-735-1885.
