WILLIMANTIC – A woman who is facing charges after a September 2014 school van crash was arrested Monday night for DUI, narcotics and risk of injury charges after being stopped with children in a car at a gas station.

Police said Catherine Caron, 53 of Baltic, was arrested after they received complaints of a possible drunk driver at Chucky’s gas station on Jackson Street who was leaving the store and getting into a vehicle with small children. Witnesses blocked the vehicle in until police arrived on the scene, said police.

Caron was charged with driving under the influence, operating with a suspended license, illegally obtaining and supplying narcotics, possession of narcotics, and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. She was being held on $35,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Danielson court on Tuesday. The children were released to a family member according to police.

Caron was arrested in November 2014 on charges in connection with a crash two months earlier. She was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and risk of injury in connection with the crash of an EastConn shuttle van that crashed into a pole in the area of Quarry St. in Willimantic on September 10, 2014. Four children had minor injuries. Caron had worked for the for 10 years and had always been in good standing. She was fired after the arrest.

Caron plead not guilty to the charges last year and is awaiting a pretrial hearing.
