NORTH HAVEN--American Pharoah made history this past weekend, and a horse part-owned by a couple of Connecticut guys was along for the ride.
For much of the Belmont Stakes, Keen Ice ran second just behind American Pharoah.
John Buckley, a New Haven attorney, and Ralph Durante, a North Haven businessman, are part of the syndicate Donegan Racing, which owns Keen Ice.
Buckley and Durante were at the track Saturday when American Pharoah became the first horse to win the Triple Crown in 37 years.
Keen Ice had a great run, placing third.
"It looked like American Pharoah could have ran all day," Durante said. Buckley agreed, "I think American Pharoah probably could have gone around again and they wouldn't have caught him."
Placing third, the payout for Keen Ice was $150,000.
Buckley and Durante said the plan is to have the horse run this summer at Saratoga.
