MYSTIC -- Thursday morning around 11 a.m. Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Team released Poppy, a young harbor seal, at Blue Shutter Beach in Charlestown, RI.  The event came after over two months of specialized care for Poppy in Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Clinic.

Poppy, an approximately 1 year old female harbor seal, was rescued by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) in Provincetown, MA on March 26, 2015. Transferred to Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Clinic for rehabilitation, she required treatment for dehydration, several small puncture wounds, and a large wound that penetrated her skull and into her nasal passages.

She weighed 18.4 kg (40 lbs.) when admitted and now weighs over 22 kg (more than 48 lbs.).

Best of luck, Poppy!
