NEW HAVEN – The man who fell into the water Tuesday has died.

New Haven police said the man had a medical condition and then fell. He was a contractor with a company working on the Magellan Terminal harbor project.

The man was in his 50s. OSHA is investigating the incident.

“We found that the workers pulled him from the water – he had fallen into the water,” said Matthew Marcarelli, Chief of Operations for the New Haven Fire Department. “We used the crane to help with the rigging to get him out of the water and up on the barge.”

The fire department worked with the construction crew that was already on the scene.

The man was taken by ambulance to Yale New Haven hospital where he is in “extremely critical condition.”
