MIDDLETOWN–The Middletown Police Department made a whole bunch of kids happy with a charitable donation.

While the city currently donates all unclaimed bikes to Bikes For Kids, an organization that believes every kid should experience the enjoyment of owning and riding their own bicycle, it went a step further to help a good cause.

Through a partnership between the Middletown Police, Waterbury Police Department PAL Program, Connecticut National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives and the Kiwanis Club of Waterbury, Middletown Police donated 20 bicycles for a bike rodeo. The event is held annually to check kids’ bikes and helmets to ensure they are safe, and to teach kids safe riding tips.

Four of the bikes donated were brand new, and the rest were slightly used.
