DANBURY–A man who left three children alone in a car at night has been arrested.

On Sunday just before 11 p.m. officers responded to reports that three kids were alone in running parked car.

The officers found children aged 9, 8 and 4 months in the car. A few minutes after police arrived Edgar Hernandez, 40, of Danbury, returned to the car. Officers saw him exit the Copacabana bar and smelled alcohol on him.

Hernandez said he only stopped for two minutes to get money from a friend, but a witness said that he was in the bar for more than 10 minutes.

Hernandez also provided a false date of birth to officers.

The kids were put in the custody of a family member, and Hernandez was charged with interfering with police, three counts of risk of injury and three counts of leaving a child under 12 years old unsupervised.

Hernandez was released on a $2,500 bond and is due in court on July 1.
