HARTFORD--The Xfinity Theatre took the DeLorean back in time to the 80s for the opener for Kid Rock Wednesday night.

Foreigner made Hartford its first stop on a 40-city tour, and the band had thousands swaying and singing along to all of the band's big hits.

Their biggest hit, "I Want To Know What Love Is," which topped the charts in the U.S. and the U.K., got the loudest cheers thanks to some young backup singers.

The choir from Joel Barlow High School in Redding won a radio station contest with their rendition of the timeless song, and the prize was the chance to hop on stage with Foreigner.

The students, some which just graduated, came in during the end of the song to sing the chorus: "I want to know what love is...I want you to show me...I want to know what love is...I know you can show me."

"That was insane, there was so many people. I did not expect that at all," Kevin Mora, who just graduated, said.

James Ordway had only ever sung in front of just a couple hundred people before this. "Knowing that I'm probably never going see that many people watching me, like ever again, it was pretty cool."

Besides the teens being rock stars for at least one night, the high school is also going to receive a nice chunk of change from the band. Foreigner participates in the Grammy Foundation, so part of the proceeds from CD sales at the concert, about $500, is set to go to the choir program.
