STRATFORD –  The worker who was killed in an accident at Sikorsky Airport Thursday morning has been identified.

According to officials, Antonio Simoes, 57, of Naugatuck, a worker for Manafort Construction was in a trench using an gasoline-powered saw to cut a water main. The saw apparently kicked back and caused a fatal injury to the man’s neck.

Simoes was pronounced dead at the scene. Bridgeport and Stratford police are investigating. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is part of the investigation.

Andrew Nunn, Chief Administrative Officer, for the City of Bridgeport, says the city run the airport was closed at 11:00 Thursday morning because the water service, including fire suppression capabilities, will be incapacitated during the investigation.
