SOMERSET, England — Kanye West got a taste of his own medicine when a British comedian ran on stage during his performance at the Glastonbury music festival in England.
West, a festival headliner, was in the middle of his fourth song in the set, “Black Skinhead,” when Simon Brodkin rushed the stage in character as his comedic persona Lee Nelson, our affiliate WPIX reported.
Nelson, who was quickly escorted away by a security guard, was wearing a T-shirt that said “Lee-zus,” a play on words to West’s nickname Yeezus.
West restarted the track after the interruption. The initial announcement of his involvement with the festival was met with criticism, with an petition on Change.org garnering 133,000 signatures to remove him from the lineup.
Some compared the incident to the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for “Video of the Year,” saying Beyonce “had one the best videos of all time.”
This wasn’t the first stunt of its kind for Brodkin, who has arrested in 2014 for attempting to board a flight to the World Cup in Brazil with England’s soccer team.
